IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM APPLICANTS AND PARTICIPANTS

As of April 11, 2017, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) determined the Housing Authority's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program to be in a financial shortfall as a result of forthcoming funding reductions in Housing Assistance Payments (HAP).  This designation has impacted the Housing Authority's HCV funding and mandated the following program changes to be implemented effective immediately as follows:

FOR EXISTING SECTION 8 HCV HOLDERS

The Housing Authority is denying a family’s request to move to a higher cost unit or higher cost area.  If you are planning to move, please ensure that your move is necessary at this time.  Inform your existing landlord that you may require more time in your current unit because of the Housing Authority's inability to approve higher cost units.  The Housing Authority does not want to displace families currently receiving assistance.

FOR SECTION 8 HCV PROGRAM APPLICANTS AND NEW SECTION 8 HCV VOUCHER HOLDERS

The Housing Authority has suspended processing applications for the Section 8 HCV program.  The Housing Authority also suspended the vouchers of applicant families.  Applicant families are families that were issued a voucher for the first time and were not previously assisted by the Housing Authority.  The Housing Authority is NOT accepting Request for Tenancy Approval (RTA) packets from applicant families that were not previously assisted by the HCV program.

The Housing Authority remains committed to serve as many families as possible.  At this time, we ask for your patience as we look for ways to resolve its financial shortfall and work with both its existing and new HCV voucher holders.
